This morning, RBK did me the honor of writing kind words and tagging me this meme. RBK writes with such clarity and strength that I find myself wishing for more and more of her blogs, and then wishing that she would actually turn those blogs into a memoir. I think there is a real desire and niche to be filled with narratives on the India-USA immigration experience; I know it’s a topic I can’t seem to get enough of. Not only that, but good writing about the human experience is always valuable, and her posts are poignant without being maudlin. Her blog shows the larger political or cultural context on a topic and then hones in on the individual experience within that context. I find her to be a clear-sighted, intelligent, and progressive voice on the Indian-American experience and her writings help me understand this adopted society that I increasingly find myself part of. Without further ado:
Six Random Things About Me
1) I am obsessed with book arts – the making of the paper, the printing, the binding of any assortment of materials into a (widely defined) book. I haven’t made enough space for this in my life and sometimes live vicariously through my brother who has. He’s a powerhouse and I’m not so much. This is in my “To Change in 2009″ list.
2) I have a deep affection and respect for oriental medicine, and once I am done with my MLIS, I want to go to school to get my Master’s in Oriental Medicine. I am a lifelong learner for sure. Also, a lifelong dreamer. But my inner pragmatist often won’t let me do what I want to do most.
3) I’m starting the Master’s in Library and Information Science program at SJSU in January 2009.
4) I am left-handed
5) I am a borderline minimalist striving to find balance between having enough but not too much, meanwhile creating a warm and welcoming space that feels homey but uncluttered.
6) I’m obsessed with leg warmers and funky socks. I am wearing black and turquoise leg warmers as I write, and it makes me almost as happy as a steaming mocha latte.
Here are the people I am tagging (apparently I need to spend more time in the blogosphere as I cannot list 6)
Honeybee – I don’t even know her real name but I love reading her blog – and I could relate so well to her last post that I want to broadcast it to all the other masala couples out there. Keep the blogs rolling, honeybee!
NeoKalypso because she’s a faboo writer & a fellow masala coupler (that’s a theme here – what can I say, I am starved for some compadres!) and I’m reading her blog as her story unfolds and wishing her only the best.
1) Link to the person who tagged you.
2) Post the rules on your blog (copy and paste 1-6).
3) Write 6 random things about yourself (see below).
4) Tag 6 people at the end of your post and link to them.
5) Let each person know they have been tagged and leave a comment on their blog.
6) Let the tagger know when your entry is up.

Thank you for being such a great sport and playing along Elizabeth and THANK YOU for your kind words-they mean a lot since I think highly of your blog which has thought-provoking material which goes below the surface… Keep writing.
I plan on visiting regularly.
So do you knit your own leg warmers and socks? I love funky socks too, and currently am learning to knit them.
Your comment on my blog made me smile- Eating gingerbread men really used to bother me, but then I used to be a vegetarian too. I guess I have just gotten more savage as the years have gone by.
Thanks for the sweet words Elizabeth. I know its been quite a while but I FINALLY got the tag posted, though your list sounds much more interesting! I think you might be my long lost and way cooler sister, hehe.
Garsh, I’m blushing! But thank you and how fun of you to play along!
Let us know how the master’s at SJSU goes – when you have time.
